Before the old man could tell Aubrey of the perfect place, the team leader heard José’s transmissions. Aubrey quieted the man. He and Davis listened intently. He told the man that they would be back and take him up on the ‘perfect place’.

Both men ran for the quad. They loaded up and sped out in a westward direction. The two men had strapped in because Aubrey didn’t intend to take any detours.

“How far is White Mesa, boss?”

“It isn’t far, only about four or five miles … I think.” Aubrey’s heart was pounding a mile a minute. José was his best friend. They served together for years. He wasn’t about to let him down now.

“Where do you think they’ll take him?” asked Davis hanging onto the bouncing buggy.

Aubrey scowled. “He said headquarters.” His mind was working as fast as possible.

“Where do you think that is?”

Aubrey bit his lip for a few seconds before answering. “Remember the drones in Blanding?”

“Yeah?” Davis looked at his boss curiously.

“I think that may be their headquarters. They sure had a lot of Radicals there. I’ll bet they’re trying to rebuild that facility.”

“It’s a damn good possibility.”

“Yep and it’s just a few miles north of White Mesa on 191. It would be quick for them to get to and from as well.”

“We should be in Blanding in about ten to twenty minutes, right?” Davis looked at Aubrey while holding on tight.

“I think so. Start planning on what the hell we’re going to do when we get there.” Aubrey leaned over the steering wheel and stared at the terrain ahead.
